That breakthrough album's follow-up, New Day Rising, saw the band taming and trimming that hardcore beast to equally good effect. Like Zen Arcade, the majority of songs on New Day Rising are under three minutes long. On the latter album, however, the Huskers introduced a pop flavor to their patented sound/5(52).

Love this album. I bought in on Vinyl in the early 80s and recently rediscovered it on Vinyl. While for may the best Husker album is Zen Arcade, for me New Day Rising and Metal Circus are the best. There's a wall of guitar-driven sound but there's melodies that shine through it all. Buy it/5(21).

Jul 02,  · Hard and fast rules so let’s dispense with the long instrumental intro and get right down to the nitty-gritty; on ’s New Day Rising, St. Paul, Minnesota power trio Hüsker Dü permanently set themselves apart from the hardcore pack by leavening the genre’s speed freak aesthetic with increasing dollops of real melody.. The results are still bracing, but New Day Rising is friendlier.

New Day Rising After the two-LP concept album Zen Arcade, Hüsker Dü returned with a more conventional record, one that features all the band's strengths in 15 sharp doses. Songwriters Bob Mould and Grant Hart used every tool in their belts, from the band's aggression to its innate tunefulness, to sculpt songs that expressed a multitude.
