“The Ambassador” explores different narrative approaches for each song. On the title track, Kahane sings from the perspective of a doorman at the now-demolished Ambassador Hotel. In “Veda” he takes on the persona of James M. Cain’s iconic protagonist, Mildred Pierce.

The Ambassador is a great album! Gabriel Kahane is operating on twelve cylinders. I don't want to go over the top but he writes beautiful stuff, and plays and sings it well. The lyrics are accessible and comprehensible, moody and moving. The guitars on Veda and Empire Liquor Mart are gorgeous, warm and elegant. Beautiful voice/5(18).
